Hey y’all! Happy Memorial day! I hope your long weekend has been as wonderful as mine! I decided to “take a few days off” from everything and I am so glad I did! Usually, our weekends are super busy. We run here and there and in between I am squeezing in Stampin’ Up stuff. SO, sometimes, the weekend seems busier than the weekdays! So, I took Friday off to spend with the Littles on their field trip and we have had lots of family time the rest of the weekend. MUCH.NEEDED.
On Saturday morning, I held my Catalog Kick off Sneak Peek Party. Wow! What a huge turnout I had! Thank you to all my friends and customers who came by to grab their new catalog and to play with new goodies!
One of the cards we made was adapted from one in this month’s Stampin Success (SU Demos get this awesome magazine once a month published by SU with tons of great ideas in it!) I wanted my customers to get their hands on the new in colors as well as some of the new DSP.
This is a very simple card that uses lots of stuff! Great for a workshop!
Stamps: Betsy’s Blossoms, Word Play, Betsy’s Blooms Wheel
Ink and Paper: Summer Starfruit, Raspberry Ripple, Midnight Muse, Gumball Green, Primrose Petals, Patio Party DSP, Floral District DSP, Comfort Cafe DSP (We used Stampin’ Markers to color the word stamp)
Punches; 1 3/8″ Circle, 1 ” Circle, 1/2″ Circle
White Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, Basic Jewel
Now, just because I can’t stop complaining about them on Facebook, I have to show you what has been “bugging” me for the last few weeks:
This is a a Katydid. And we are INFESTED with them. The “croak” all day long, but once it gets dark, it is deafening. I mean, outrageously so. Wakes me up at night it’s so loud. And, this guy was sitting on the window when I took the card picture. At any given time, when I walk outside, there are 10-12 sitting on my porch. Awful!! Anybody else dealing with these right now??
I wanted to remind you that right now, you can join Stampin’ Up and my team, the Sweet Stampede, for only $99! That is simply the best price SU has ever offered it. You get $190 worth of product and business materials! And, new this year, you pick ANYTHING you want from the catalog! WOW!
Product discount: Demonstrators get a 20 percent discount on all Stampin’ Up! products, including stamp sets, paper, and accessories. It’s a great way to support your love of stamping, paper or digital crafting, home décor – or whatever your passion may be!
Extra income:You’ll earn extra income based on your sales and recruiting – just how much extra income is up to you. Ok, and last, I just want to share some photos from my fabulous family weekend:
We took the girls to the Medina River for a lazy day of swimming.
There was a giant tree over a section of the river. It made for a great jumping spot!
Mr. Fifty Shades ain’t got nothin’ on my man! 😉 Sill just as cute as the day I first laid eye on him in 10th grade..
A was a little nervous. The water was swift, but only about 12 inches deep. She eventually got used to it, but not until the very end of the day!
E was the bravest of them all. Fearless! Which, is not normally her style!
Daddy is the biggest kid of them all!
I even joined in the fun to prove that yes, in fact, Mommy can be fun sometimes too! LOL! (I can’t believe I am posting this picture of me in my bathing suit! Promise to never blackmail me with it, alright!? LOL! Please pretend my legs are nice and tan and toned. Running 10 miles a week, and they still look like that! UHG!!)
There were many ropes across the small river, and the kids tried to make a zip line.. LOL! Didn’t really work, but they had fun trying over and over again!
On Friday, I got to spend the day with The Littles on their field trip. So fun! We went to Morgan’s Wonderland, which is a special needs amusement park. their preschool is an inclusion class, so we were able to go there. Normally, only families with special needs get to go, so this was a special privilege for my kids!
All in all I think I took 500 pictures this weekend! I’ve got scrapbook pages for months now!
Ok, if you made it to the end, I’m so glad you did! Thanks for being patient while I took a few days off. I missed Scrapbook Saturday again. Sorry! I’ll make up for it, I promise!!
Have a great Memorial Day!

If you want to get rid of katydids, think in terms of a three step program. Habitat, deterrents and removal. First, reduce the number of attractive habitats for katydids, crickets and grasshoppers in your garden. Clean out gutters where damp collected debris offers a welcome haven. Trim any long grass areas down to a low level since they love long grass, and sweep the cuttings away from the house. If you have a compost heap, keep it a good distance from the home, and if you bin it, keep the bin a good distance away and ensure the lid is held down securely.
Next, use deterrents to discourage them from feeding on your plants. There are two ways to do this. You can plant "barrier plants" that these insects are repelled by such as horehound, cilantro, calendula or alliums. These crops will repel a wide range of insects long term, but if you don't have time to grow them, a short term solution is to use a repellent spray.
Try solutions of garlic oil, neem oil or Tabasco mixed with water and spray the plants. While the garlic and Tabasco will repel the katydids, neem oil acts not only as a repellent, but also as an anti-feed and growth regulator, and even sterilizes some species. If using insecticides such as Talstar Pro, read the instructions carefully and follow the manufacturers instructions.
If using barrier crops and sprays to protect your treasured plants is not enough for you and you don't want to listen to the "Katy did, Katdy didn't," argument all night, you can reduce their numbers by trapping and removing Katydids in home made traps. Mix a solution of black strap molasses diluted in water in an old jar or can, and bury these up to the neck in the ground. The katydids will be attracted by the sweetness and crawl in attempting to feed, only to drown in the solution. They will also be attracted to ultraviolet bug killers left in the garden overnight. Be warned, if handling larger species, they are capable of pinching the skin painfully.
With these simple measures you should be able to keep katydids off your plants and enjoy the night song without being driven to distraction.
I have to laugh at those bugs! First I don't like bugs at all…have a few stories way. However, when I was in college at SFA in Nacogdoches we had the strangest bugs and they jumped. Eeek! So I feel your pain.
I love your cute little purse. I also love seeing your family pics! Super sweet to share those.

Great card! Love all of the new goodies on it!
Fantastic family pics too! Looks like so much fun!
I LOVED Morgans Wonderland our PK/PPCD unit spent a day out there and they loved it. I think I was more excited about the trip.
